Growing up in Southern California, Lisa is a Texas native - her schooling from age of 4 was in the Palos Verdes (South Bay) area.
Important band directors Warren Balfour, Scott Henderson and Don Marino helped guide Lisa in her early years at PVHS, where her love of the horn and musical theater was born!
Lisa holds a Bachelor's degree from California State University, Long Beach in Horn Performance.
Ms. Cherry has studied with many famous and noteworthy teachers! James McGee (Jr HS), Scott Henderson as a young player, James Decker when she was 16, Sinclair Lott, Wally Linder, Ralph Pyle and Wendall Hoss during High School and college.
Fred Fox, Gerald Thatcher and Vince Derosa while in college gives Lisa one of the most varied backgrounds of any horn player!
Lisa's resume is lengthy. After completion of her degree she started her first professional job out of the country in Veracruz, Mexico with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Veracruz for the 1981 season.
Upon her return to the US, Lisa has continued her professional career as a prominent freelancer doing live shows, church performances and recording for prominent soundtracks at Fox 20th Century and Warner Brothers.
Ms. Cherry has performed in many orchestras all over Southern California and spent her time enjoying travels all over the world from Italy to Taiwan.
A member of Peninsula Symphony in the South Bay, Lisa started with that orchestra at age 14 and is currently Prin. Horn with the orchestra!
A life member of Local 47 (Los Angeles) and Local 7 (Orange County) Musician's Union AFofM.
